Lu Wang started studying art three years ago, but she has enjoyed doodling since she was young. She likes to express her own ideas and perspectives about the people and events around her through drawing and painting. Her artwork is a combination of work in a variety of media.
Born and raised in China, Lu Wang has a sentimental longing and affection for her hometown Shandong, China, which contains a rich Chinese cultural heritage. In her art, she wants to capture the beautiful and unique Chinese culture, architecture, geography and people that relate to her childhood memories and have influenced her aesthetic and cultural background.
Her favorite piece is the one in which she portrays herself looking at the Chinese calligraphy and practicing it by writing the Chinese words on her hand. Chinese calligraphy is a reflection of the inner mind, emotions, and intellect of the calligrapher. As it is said, “The way characters are written is a portrait of the person who writes them.” Practicing it since she was young, she regards the Chinese calligraphy as a channel for the appreciation of traditional Chinese culture and heritage.
Lu hopes one day to bring her artistic talent into business endeavors that are socially good, such as fundraising through an art show to help low-income Chinese American communities in America, such as those in Chinatowns with housing and other material needs. She also wants to show her identity and introduce Chinese cultures to others through the art show.
